According to sources, Dapo, a polo buff reportedly shot himself in the head Friday evening. Couple of years back, Dapo mysteriously escaped death via a ghastly power bike accident, which forced him to beat a retreat from the public space. However, there are indications that his alleged suicide may not be unconnected to his marital woes with wife, Patricia, a trained lawyer and an entrepreneur. Task Before Joe Bidin - Obama

Image
I could not be prouder to congratulate our next President, Joe Biden, and our next First Lady, Jill Biden. I also couldn’t be prouder to congratulate Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff for Kamala’s groundbreaking election as our next Vice President. In this election, under circumstances never experienced, Americans turned out in numbers never seen. And once every vote is counted, President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris will have won a historic and decisive victory. We’re fortunate that Joe’s got what it takes to be President and already carries himself that way. Because when he walks into the White House in January, he’ll face a series of extraordinary challenges no incoming President ever has – a raging pandemic, an unequal economy and justice system, a democracy at risk, and a climate in peril. I know he’ll do the job with the best interests of every American at heart, whether or not he had their vote. So I encourage every American to give him a chance and lend him you...

#EndSARS Protests: The Aftermath - By Nifemi ORIMABUYAKU

Image
The EndSARS protest started as an online protest on social media but most prominent on the micro-blogging platform - Twitter in 2017, with the hashtag #EndSARS. This movement called for the disbandment of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigerian Police with a long record of assaults, killings, harassment, lack of freedom of expression, misuse and mishandling of weapons, amongst other issues.  This moment was revitalized in October 2020, shortly after the nation’s (Nigeria) independence and this time stronger than it was in the past. It started with an online activism as usual, which eventually led to protests, demonstrations and many more. The slogan #EndSARS became a mantra not just calling for dissolving the Special Anti Robbery Squad but for rejecting bad governance, asking for accountability from the government, seeking a new nation after 60 years of anguish, pain and struggles without any profound developments. The EndSARS movement wasn’t religi...

How COVID-19 Heightened Socio Economic Inequality In Nigeria : Politics,Economy And The People.

Image
Nifemi Orimabuyaku Coronavirus disease fondly called COVID-19, has different origins and myths attached with it, but one sure thing we all know about the coronavirus disease is that, it is a communicable respiratory disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus that causes illness in humans, which was first reported in China, and in turn spread throughout the world. Inequality on the other hand is social disparity, lack of evenness, an unfair situation in which some people have more rights than others or better than some people. So, how possible can a disease affect inequality in a nation? COVID-19 came with a lot of baggage and one of it is inequality. Inequality isn’t a new thing in the society most especially in a nation like ours, Nigeria. It has dwelt with us so much that a lot of us have learnt to live with it. With the discovery of COVID-19, inequality has increased tremendously in the society. Politically, the nation has been experiencing inequality since time im...

Lagos Panel In Surprise Visit To Army Hospital, Discovered It Has Been Under Renovation For A Year Now, No Mortuary Found

Image
In a bid to unravel claims of mass killings by the military at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos during the EndSARS protest, the retired Justice Doris Okuwobi-led Judicial Panel of Inquiry for Restitution for Victims of SARS and the Lekki shootings, yesterday paid an unscheduled visit to the Military Hospital in Ikoyi, in search of its mortuary. There had been speculations that the bodies of some protesters were dumped at the mortuary after being allegedly killed by soldiers while trying to dislodge them at the toll gate. But gaining access to the mortuary was initially tough following a mild standoff between members of the panel and soldiers manning the gate of the military hospital. The soldiers claimed that they were not aware of their coming and that it was against protocol coming without prior notice. After initial resistance by the soldiers for about 30 minutes, the panel members were eventually allowed into the premises of the hospital. The soldiers apparently got approval from...
