Litigation against the dissolution of Ekiti APC executive vs the Factional litigation against Ekiti P

Image
By Igbalaso Igbalewu A few days ago, some aggrieved members of Ekiti APC suddenly woke up to the realization that Ekiti APC Congresses of September 2018 were faulty and sought the help of the court for the dissolution of the Party executives produced through those Congresses. This development has suddenly and expectedly arose the interest of Ekiti PDP whose Party is already at the emergency center of the teaching hospital, gasping for the last breath! There is clear distinction between the two scenarios. The differences are ; 1. There is no factional crisis in APC as of today. No Parallel executives in any of the 177 wards of Ekiti State. No multiple Party Secretariats. The management of the Party in the State was not given to an undertaker and Ajeles from outside the State. The Party Structures are intact. The command and control system of the Party remains as structured. The upward and downward flows of information and activities are not disrupted. 2. There is nothin...

Bode Sowande: I Will Be At Your 80th Birthday - By Chris Omotoso

Image
Yes, two years just like yesterday. I was there, a long chain of activities at Ibadan Arts Theatre. By sheer providence, I have been part of Prof. Bode Sowande's landmark celebrations... I was the Secretary of Ogun ANA when the Chapter celebrated his 60th birthday in Abeokuta as one of our Patrons. I was also part of the Ogun team to honour him at Ibadan when he clocked 70 two years ago. I am looking forward to his 80th birthday. I will be there too.. Prof is just an amiable personality that anyone would love to meet. The first impression I had of him since I met him in his  Odu Theme office in January 1998 as an undergraduate hasn't left me. The humility with which such a giant in the literary world, the one I had read a lot about, made a last longing significant impression on me; with no prior notice, he gave me attention as he diligently answered all the questions that an undergraduate student in me was asking him for my research! Our relationship blossomed whe...

10 Years After T. M. Aluko: Nigerian Engineer Turned Playwright - By Tayo Aluko

Image
By Tayo Aluko A tribute to T.M ALUKO, the engineer turned novelist, author of "One Man, One Wife"; "One Man, One Matcher" among others and a pioneer member/Trustee of Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA written by his son, the Liverpool based playwright and thespian, Tayo Aluko 10 years on. On May 1, 2010, Timothy Mofolorunso Aluko went to join the ancestors, and/or as he himself believed, to take his seat at the feet of Jesus. Anybody who knew him will know that he certainly earned that place. Writing this in Liverpool during lockdown, I am mindful of the fact that when he was born in June 1918 in a little village near Ilesha, World War I was still raging, and the Spanish Flu pandemic was six months old. It apparently infected about a third of the world’s population over a two-year period, with approximately a tenth of the infected dying. We therefore know that Covid-19 will pass, and that given the right combination of luck, hard work and opportunity, ...

Smallholder Agricultural Commercialization: The Best Approach To Rural Poverty Reduction. (By Olufemi AJAYI

Image
Whether you are a President, a Governor or a Local Government Chairman, who is interested in job creation and poverty reduction, Smallholder Farmers Agricultural Commercialisation(SAC) is the answer. Agriculture is a proven engine for poverty reduction. In countries like India, Malaysia, China etc,  GDP growth generated by agriculture is more effective in reducing poverty than growth in any other sector. Our fathers, who were subsistence farmers did quite a lot in their time, to make food available for their immediate families by doing arable crops farming on one hand, and on the other hand producing cash crops to be able to earn money to maintain social status, send their children to school and also contribute to community or societal development. Our fathers often married more wives, not because they were promiscuous, but to have many children that could help on their farms. More hands on the farm guaranteed more output, more food and more money. This was the practice ...

They pointed out that the Fayemi-led Government also paid a little above the minimum wage for its workers. They said through the Governor’s antecedence, they were convinced that Ekiti State government would effect the N30,000 minimum wage.
