Ekiti: Governor Responds To Claims Of Selling State Lodge ln Abuja

Image
• Says building undergoing reconstruction, as he berates ex-governor Fayose Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has denied claims that his government has sold off the Ekiti State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. Governor Fayemi said that his government was just carrying out reconstruction of the building located at the Federal Capital Territory, having been allegedly abandoned throughout the four years of the administration of former Governor Ayodele Fayose. The PDP had in a statement in Ado-Ekiti signed by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ekiti, Diran Odeyemi, accused the governor of selling off the building to an unnamed investor, an action he described as an act of financial recklessness and misgovernance. But in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the Governor, Segun Dipe, on Saturday, Fayemi described the allegation as spurious, saying the reconstruction of the sprawling edifice was captured on the 2020 budgets and...

Image
The arrest of a police officer who allegedly shot a 16-year-old girl dead in the Iyana-Oworo area of Lagos state on Wednesday, May 27 has been confirmed by the Spokesperson of Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana. It was learnt that the trigger-happy policeman was trying to arrest a bus driver for violating the nationwide curfew and allegedly shot the bus conductor dead as well as young Tina during the process. After the unfortunate incident, Nigerians took to social media using the hashtag #JusticeofTina to demand the arrest and prosecution of the erring police officer. Reacting to the sad development, the spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana this afternoon announced via his Twitter handle that the erring police officer has been arrested and will be made to face the full weight of the law. ”The killer cop is identified, arrested and detained at the Headquarters. "President Buhari Trusts Women More Than Men" - Garba Shehu

Image
The Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Garba Shehu has said that Buhari trusts women more than men. Disclosing this when he played host in an NTA programme on Friday, Shehu, said; “Let me say this, I hope I don’t get myself into trouble. “He is more trusted of women than men, because he has given this country… all these years, all the country’s money is in the hands of women and they kept it safely. And they are doing well.” Recall that Kemi Adeosun was Buhari’s first finance minister, before, Zainab Ahmed. Both are women of exceptional qualities. Adeosun resigned on September 15, 2018, following allegations that she used a forged certificate to avoid the country’s mandatory one-year youth service scheme, NYSC. In her defense, Kemi said she was issued with a certificate that she thought was genuine. She however, resigned honorably. In her words, “This has come as a shock to me and I believe that in line with this administrat...

We're Still Focused on Delivering Mandate for Change – Buhari

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari has assured  Nigerians that the mandate for change remains relevant and will be steadily followed to improve livelihoods. This was contained in a statement signed yesterday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu On the first year anniversary of his second term in office. According to him: "The campaign had been hard fought; yet the mandate the people of this country gave him was decisive. He won that election with a distance of nearly four million votes or 15 per cent of the total votes cast over his closest opponent. "It was then - and is today - a mandate for change. For many years Nigerians have yearned for something different: less of the corruption and immoral greed of those who once governed; more decency in public life and fairness, and a chance to succeed. "Nigerians yearned for improved security and end to terrorist bombings and for long-delayed infrastructure. Day by day, step by step, the P...

Ekiti Governor's Lodge in Abuja: Between due process and ill-informed interference - By Segun Dipe

Image
_"Do not answer a fool according to his folly or you yourself will be just like him. Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes." -Proverbs 26:4-5._ When we saw the criticism desperately, frustratingly, but wrongly unleashed on the public regarding the Ekiti State Lodge in Abuja, FCT and the construction work going on there, the initial thought was to let it pass as the ranting of an inconsequential ant. On a second thought, we considered the mindset of both the propagandists and their gullible audience who know next to nothing about good governance and decided to give them the biblical treatment as recommended above, especially with the Press quoting Diran Odeyemi from Osun State as the inordinate signee of the statement. Diran knows next to nothing about Ekiti government business and, at best, he is a meddlesome interloper. How desperate and frustrated can an opposition be to show it is still licking the wounds it sustained when it ...

Me, Adedubu, Alao-Akala And Obasanjo - By Rashidi Ladoja

Image
 -  Former Oyo State Governor; Senator Rashidi Ladoja Everybody knew that between me and Baba (late Chief Lamidi Adedibu), we had a sort of good rapport. If Baba had views on six issues and I was able to take Baba out of the groove, by the time he came back, Baba might drop five for me. That was how close we were. During the campaign, the major crisis we had was the popular opinion that ‘Ladoja is good but will Adedibu allow him work?’ I used to say, I am a father and a grandfather. I have built my life, if I am elected, the buck stops on my table. You see, even if Baba was good, what about the people that surrounded Baba? On inauguration day, they went to pull down Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s statue in front of Government House; that was the first crisis we had. They took it to Baba’s place the same day. There was a finance board in Bodija, and the agreement was that the contractor would collect toll until their money was paid before they would turn it over to the governme...

Ayade, The Cry Cry Baby In Peregrino House By AGBA JALINGO

Image
Yesterday, my governor, Senator Ben Ayade cried AGAIN while launching the anti-taxation agency in Calabar. The agency is meant to ensure low income earners do not pay taxes in Cross River state. His tears actually touched a soft chord in the minds of many people across the country and several of them have circulated the video back to me. One person who is  not even in Cross River state said, their earlier scheduled meeting started with the video where governor Ayade was crying and most people in the meeting also started crying along with the governor whom they concluded is a lover of the poor and this is very impressive. But if tears were a true measure of our pain, even Hitler's drops would be preserved in the alabaster bottle. That is the irony and the double edged nature of that readily available liquid. Once emotions are evoked, in no direction essentially, tears can start flowing and oftentimes, the person whose tears flow down the cheeks, doesn't even know why they ...

“MERCY” by Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi

Image
The baby girl is so beautiful. With her eyes closed and a blanket keeping her warm, she looks like an angel. I was asked to give her a name. I named her Anuoluwa – God’s Mercy. Mercy. That is what she has received. Anyone staring at this lovely bundle of joy would never have imagined what she looked like the week before. She had been found not more than a few hours old, with her umbilical cord still attached. She was covered in blood and dirt. She had been left as naked as she had been born, with nothing to cover her. Mercy. That is the only thing that stood between her being eaten by stray dogs or rodents who would have been attracted by the smell of blood. The desperate soul who abandoned her baby has not been found. People rained all kinds of curses on the mother who abandoned her. Efforts were made to find her to no avail. I pointed out that perhaps it was for the best. The mother could have strangled her first before abandoning her. By leaving her alive, in her own way, she ...

Dr. Fayemi who is the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum admonished Muslims to put the teachings of the holy month to good use in all undertakings. He urged Muslims and adherents of other religions to live in love, peace and harmony with one another as brothers and sisters. While noting that Ramadan was a season of discipline and sacrifice, the governor urged them to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with modesty in view of the ravaging coronavirus pandemic which has disrupted socio- economic and religious activities globally. He stressed that prayers by the faithful are needed more...

Afuye Greets Muslims as they end Ramadan Fasting

Image
The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, has commended Muslims across Ekiti State for their peaceful conduct during the Ramadan fasting which has come to an end. The Speaker in a Statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, noted that the Muslims in the State observed the rules of social distancing all the protocols during the fasting. This, he said, showed that "Islam is truly a religion of peace and discipline". He congratulated them for successfully completing the fasting and urged them never to allow the lessons of the fasting to go without any meaningful impacts on their lives. Rt. Hon. Afuye who observed that "Ekiti is a State where Muslims and Christians coexist peacefully", opined that the State House of Assembly would always make laws that give credence to religious tolerance in the State. It will be recalled that 30 days ago, Muslims started their Ramadan fasting during which the Speaker ...

IMO State: No More Payment of Pension for Ex Governors, Speakers

Image
Imo state Governor Hope Uzodinma has assented to a bill repealing the law that created pension allowances and gratuities for former governors, deputy governors, assembly speakers and deputy speakers. Signing the bill into law in Owerri on Friday, the governor noted that the erstwhile law runs contrary to the 1999 constitution as amended, which stipulates that a pensioner must have worked for at least 10 years and must be up to 45 years of age. He regretted a situation where some of the beneficiaries of such payments also get huge amount of money as salaries and allowances in other positions they occupied such as serving as senators or members of the House of Representatives. “Apart from the inconsistency of such a law to the provisions of the ground norm, which is the Constitution of 1999 (as amended), this has led for a very long time a precedence that does not encourage diligence and prudence in service delivery,” the governor said. He, however thanked the State House ...
