Woman apprehended for killing own one-month baby

Fountain Newsbreaker A 35-year-old woman, Sukurat Olajoke, was arrested on Saturday at about 8:30 p.m. by men of the Ogun State police command for killing her own one-month-old baby, and dumping the corpse in the Ogun River. Policemen attached to the Enugada Divisional Headquarters, Abeokuta, who were on routine patrol with the Divisional Police Officer, Baba Hamzat, had seen the woman throwing something suspicious into the river. Her suspicious behaviour after throwing the object into the river attracted the policemen who quickly apprehended her for questioning. On interrogation, Olajoke, who said she lives at Agboole Alakoye area of Igbo Ora in Oyo State, confessed that what she threw into the river was the corpse of her one-month-old baby, whom she killed out of frustration.   The DPO later engaged the service of local divers, who helped in recovering the corpse of the child, which was later deposited at the General Hospital mortuary.   According to her, the man who is responsible f

Fountain Newsbreaker  In pursuit of justice for, Miss Olajide Omolola, the unmarried police woman dismissed by the Nigeria Police Force for being pregnant in Ekiti recently, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Wale Fapohunda  personally attended court in his full legal regalia to appear before the judge. The Federal High Court, sitting at Ado Ekiti today, adjourned the matter till 14th of April, 202.    The Ekiti State Attorney-General, Olawale Fapohunda had instituted a  suit against the Inspector General of Police seeking an order of court declaring Section 127 of the Police Act and Regulations which provides for the discharge from the Police Force, women Police officers who become pregnant while unmarried unconstitutional. Fountain Newsbreaker In a swift reaction to the criticism trailing the speech reportedly made by one of his Special Advisers, Mr Makinde Araoye, over the age limit for presidential aspirants in 2023, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has described the comment as the latter's personal opinion. Mr Araoye is the Ekiti State Liaison Officer for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (in the rank of a Special Adviser) and was reported in the in the Blueprint Newspaper of March 26, 2021 edition, which is also being circulated across social media  with the headline; “No Room for Presidential Aspirant above 60 years- Fayemi”.   The governor in a press release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, disowned the news credited to the Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr. Kayode Fayemi. Ekiti Speaker Mourns Olowoporoku's Demise

The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye has expressed shock about the death of the first republic minister, Dr Bode Olowoporoku.  The speaker, in a release signed by his Special Adviser on media, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, described the late Ilawe Ekiti born politician as a prominent leader of Ekiti,  nay Nigeria,  who played his role in his own way while alive. "Apart from being highly cerebral, Dr Olowoporoku was also an astute politician who contributed immensely to the creation of Ekiti State," the Speaker said. The Speaker extolled the virtues of Olowoporoku whom he described as a bold and a man of his conviction. He pursued his beliefs with doggedness and focus.  The Speaker prayed to God to grant the family of Olowoporoku and indeed the entire Ekiti, the fortitude to bear the loss.

Akeredolu Appoints Ekiti AG, Fapohunda, Chair, S/West APC Constitution Review Committee

The Governor of Ondo State and Chairman, South West Governors Forum, Arakurin Rotimi Akeredolu SAN has constituted a high-level committee from the South West Zone to review the Constitution of the All Progressive Congress (APC). The Committee which is to be chaired by Olawale Fapohunda, the Attorney General of Ekiti State comprises all the Attorneys-General, Chiefs of Staff and APC Chairpersons of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti States. The Committee is expected to harmonize the various positions of the five south-west APC States with a view to presenting  a common position on the ongoing APC constitutional review process. It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced the process of reviewing its constitution ahead of the 2023 general elections.  The APC Caretaker and Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee had last week Tuesday inaugurated the party’s eight-person Committee to coordinate the party’s nationwide constitutional review process.

Insurgency: APC Govt, Incapable - Jide Awe

Gani Salau Against the backdrop of protracted insecurity in the country, the immediate past Chairman of All Progressive Congress, APC in Ekiti state, Chief Jide Awe has declared his party, the ruling party as being incapable of solving Nigeria's problem. Awe made this known today on a popular interactive program, Button Line on Cruise FM, 92.7, Ikere Ekiti over the spate of insecurity in Nigeria. He opined that Nigeria as a country presently "is unsafe to live in due to the incessant and unchecked attack of the bandits and Fulani herdsmen in the country". Funminiyi Afuye has admonished members of   Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, (PASAN) Ekiti State Chapter to be gentle in their agitation for the implementation of financial autonomy in the legislative arm of government. Ekiti East By-election: Court Remands Three Over Murder

              An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court Sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered the remand of the three suspected persons arrested in connection with violence and murder of some indigenes of Omuo-Ekiti during the By-election held on Saturday in Ekiti East State Assembly.  The three persons while at the court pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder slammed on them by the state government.  The Accused persons who were arrested and arraigned at an Ekiti State chief magistrate Court -2, sitting in Ado-Ekiti on three counts charge of conspiracy, attempted murder and murder were; Sola Adenijo, Paul Folorunsho, Adebayo Sherifat.  The case brought by police before the court was supported by an Affidavit of eight paragraphs deposed to by ASP Adio Ayuba who is in-charge of homicide section of the Nigeria Police State CIID Ado Ekiti. ASUP denies allegation against Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti

The Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has vehemently denied that it ever made any allegation purporting that the Rector, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye invested One billion naira staff salary in Bitcoin. The ASUP rebuttal of the allegation which had gone viral on media platforms, came at the wake of peace meeting brokered by the paramount ruler of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, _Aladesanmi 111_ and members of the Ewi-in- Council with the Management of the Polytechnic and the local ASUP Executive.
