International Women Day Celebration: NAWOJ Seeks Adequate Women Representation In PIB

In the interest of celebrating women and to commemorate the International Women Day that is celebrated every 8th of March, the National Association of Women Journalist ,Ekiti State chapter has
called on the government and relevant stakeholders on the need to properly include adequate women representation in the proposed Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) waiting for approval before the National Assembly.
This call was made today in a press release signed by the chairperson and the secretary, Alhaja Fatima Bello and Adewumi Ademiju respectively and made available to the press in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital urged the government to make sure that more capable women are adequately represented as the National Assembly begins their constitutional duties on the Petroleum Industry Bill debate.
In a theme for the year 2021 celebration is “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal future in a Covid-19 world”/ "Choose To Challenge". NAWOJ stated that proper inclusion of women participation in the Petroleum Industry Bill is necessary because of the impact of the industry in the lives and livelihood of women and children .
The statement read, "Adequate representation given to women in the PIB will amount to women development and societal development in turn”
NAWOJ commended wives, mothers and female health workers on the crucial roles in various ways in combatting coronavirus pandemic.
"The courage put forward by these women in tackling the pandemic is highly commendable and rewarding ".NAWOJ asserted.
In the same vein NAWOJ applauded the Governor of Ekiti State ,Dr Kayode Fayemi and his wife Erelu Bisi Fayemi for their efforts at achieving women development and putting gender friendly administration in Ekiti state.
International Women Day celebration is celebrated throughout the world on every 8th of March to actually acknowledge the roles of women in nation building.
