Insecurity In South West And The Sunday Igboho Intervention, Reactions - By Nifemi Orimabuyaku

Security to every government is expected to be a serious business, be it Federal, State or the Local Council. But the involvement of both Federal and State governments in the security of their territories is much felt due to the apparatus of governance and the logistics that accompany it. Recently there had been uproar of insecurity in the nation, most especially the southwest geopolitical zone of the country, comprising Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos. In the course of this insecurity, a Yoruba warrior, the person of Sunday Adeyemo otherwise known as "Sunday igboho" rose up and dared government both federal and other levels to defy all odds in rescuing Yoruba land from incessant killings by the Fulani herdsmen. It is pertinent to have a look at the recent security development in the most urbanized region and the involvement of the widely acclaimed "Oodua liberator" called Sunday Igboho. So, who is Sunday Igboho?  Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known

Alaafin Writes Buhari on Insecurity

Image
AN open letter to president MUHAMMADU BUHARI by the ALAAFIN of OYO, OBA LAMIDI OLAYIWOLA ADEYEMI III Yoruba Question in Nigeria Conundrum Your Excellency,  I have never been timid or shy of my total support for the success of your administration to deliver the country to the Promised Land. My confidence had always been based on Your Excellency’s ability, fitness and competence in leading the country to the Promised Land, where Law and Order prevail, individual liberty is guaranteed, economic well-being of the citizens is assured.  That my confidence in Your Excellency remains unshaken to date. In recent time however, I am worried about the security situation in the country, especially in the South West geo-political zone, nay the entire Yoruba-speaking area of the country including Kwara, Kogi and Edo states. This has to do with the incessant and increasing menace of Fulani herdsmen that have laid siege in almost all the highways of Yoruba land. Whether in Owo, Akure, Ilesa/Ife-Ibadan

“Don’t explain your philosophy. Embody it.” -Epictetus Early this morning Chief Samuel Bandele Falegan breathed his last. He died a few months to his 88th birthday. Known to his friends as Dele and SB to his colleagues, Falegan was an accomplished economist and banker.  I grew up knowing  him and hearing about his educational exploits. He, despite all odds sought education and made the best of it. He was my dad’s bossom friend and at a time in the early 70’s they were partners in palm plantation venture.    Chief Falegan belonged to the first generation of Ekiti elites who sought education with every fiber of their being and worked his way to the top. He was Director of Research at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Managing Director, Federal Mortgage Bank, Managing Director Interstate Bank and Chairman , Owena Bank, a position from which he retired to become a farmer and a community leader in his home town , Ado- Ekiti. A man of brilliance and elocution, he abhorred and detest corruption an

Journalism In A Rapidly-Changing World - By Nifemi Orimabuyaku

Journalism as a profession is as old as human being. God used communication to create the world and her existence together with the inhabitants. Though, it becomes more professional when the operations became more advanced till the present moment when one can decide to be at the comfort of his home to some extent and put up professional touch to make up news to the society.  Journalism  according to Merriam Webster's dictionary is "the activity or job of collecting, writing, and editing news stories for newspapers, magazines, television, or radio. It is also the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media" and it was first used in the year 1791.  Journalism is a tried and true source of getting acquainted with recent happenings all over the world.  In a world where things are constantly evolving and several professions seem to be falling apart and not adapting to the new system of science and technology, journalism seems to be greatly helped. Much Ado About Banditry, Boko Haram, Kidnapping - By Nifemi Orimabuyaku.

Borno which has her motto as the ‘Home of Peace’ has become the entire opposite of this phrase, just like Nigeria who's referred to as the Giant of Africa is gradually diminishing into the opposite, courtesy of our so-called leaders. Nigeria answers the acronym immediately after the independence up to the eighties. But hope is not lost in as much as Nigeria as a country exists. Recently, there have been consistent attacks in the major parts of the country most especially in the northern areas which is an eyesore to the state of the nation in this 21st century. Although, these attacks are gradually drifting to the southern areas due to the laissez-faire attitude of the government to the issue of security. The murder of the 43 rice farmers in Bornu which Zambari villagers at Bornu state claimed was more but wouldn't like to disclose how much they were other than the 43 that has earlier been mentioned. More than 300 boys have been missing too after the gunmen raided in a secondary

The Reality of our nation presently: We hope for better - By Nifemi Orimabuyaku

Regardless of the bloodshed on the 20th of October 2020 and the massive input of Nigerian youths during the EndSARS protest, no distinct change has been recorded in the affairs of the nation “Nigeria has even failed the unborn”, says Seun Kuti, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti's son, a famous Nigerian musician and political activist, who confronted the major social and political issue with his music and he is  still regarded as a powerful revolutionary action. Seun Kuti, his son who took the baton after him, continuing in his legacy, made this profound statement. Recently in the nation, a lot of heart melting comment and thought provoking words have been said by men of timbre and Calibre in the nation, reputable political icons, both those in the nation and those in diaspora. Warnings are been given, protest are been held, cries and groanings of the citizen keeps increasing daily but it looks like regardless, the change we seek isn't anywhere around the corner, rather it's getting
