Our Delta State reporter, Oluwatayo Raphael gives an account of his experience in Sapele on Sunday as he witnessed how men of the Nigerian Army shaved boys' hair with scissors in public.
STORY:
On my way to Warri on the 3rd of January 2021, my bus was put to a stop by the Nigerian Army, checking boys for bad hairstyles like dread, unkept hairs, plaited hairs tinted hairs etc. Luckily I was descent on my low cut so I didn't fall victim.
Outside in the street way boys with dreed, unkept hairs etc. were on their knees as the were being shaved by the Soldiers with scissors, everyone with bad hairstyles were on this list.
Later on, I was able to speak with one of the victims who happened to be an indigene of Sapele and he disclosed to me that one of the Nigerian Army officers was killed by hoodlums, and the army were given directives from above to disciple all boys in Sapele who by hairstyles look like hoodlums, without hurting them.
One of the Soldiers said the next time such an incident occurred, it is going to be beatings with leather cane (koboko).
