Insecurity In South West And The Sunday Igboho Intervention, Reactions - By Nifemi Orimabuyaku

Security to every government is expected to be a serious business, be it Federal, State or the Local Council. But the involvement of both Federal and State governments in the security of their territories is much felt due to the apparatus of governance and the logistics that accompany it.

Recently there had been uproar of insecurity in the nation, most especially the southwest geopolitical zone of the country, comprising Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos.

In the course of this insecurity, a Yoruba warrior, the person of Sunday Adeyemo otherwise known as "Sunday igboho" rose up and dared government both federal and other levels to defy all odds in rescuing Yoruba land from incessant killings by the Fulani herdsmen. It is pertinent to have a look at the recent security development in the most urbanized region and the involvement of the widely acclaimed "Oodua liberator" called Sunday Igboho.

So, who is Sunday Igboho?

Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho was born October 10, 1972. He is a human right activist and a politician. He is the chairman of Adeson International Business Concept Ltd and popularly referred to as the Akoni Oodua of Yoruba.

He started off as a motorcycle repairer and then ventured into automobiles where he sells cars and was able to start Adeson business Concept. He is married to two wives and has children, including three professional footballers in Germany. He once worked with former Governor of Oyo state, Rasheed Ladoja and became one of his most trusted aides.

He became famous as a strong defendant of the Modakeke people in the Modakeke/Ife war between 1997 and 1998. He gained social media tractions in January 2021 when he gave a week ultimatum via a statement to herdsmen in Ibarapa to vacate the land after the killing of Dr. Aborode.

Igboho is believed to possess metaphysical powers and he is a strong advocate for the Oduduwa republic.

Following his legendary act, an order was released by the Presidency that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, ordered the arrest of Sunday Igboho, for giving Fulani in Oyo State an ultimatum to exit the state.

Several comments have been rolling in from the citizens  of Nigeria as against this harsh development by the presidency and some of them are:

Reno Omokri, A Twitter activitst and scholar said: "You say herdsmen have a right to do business everywhere in Nigeria, but Yoruba men don't have the right to start pig farms in Sokoto? Kano can regulate Igbo peoples" beer parlours in Kano, but Ondo should not regulate killer herdsmen? We want equality or division.

Mr Emmanuel Ogwuche also responded ,"So if herdsmen start wreaking havoc on his people, he should remain silent until they kill the whole community right? It seems to me that the Hausas think that they're the only owner of this country.

"What baffles me now is that the Yoruba elders are silent. Yoruba ronu".

Mr Efe Camilus showed his grievance also by replying that "Same IGP that failed to provide security, where is the minister of interior, why are the big APC politicians in the South West silent? Sunday Igboho had a difficult choice, to allow his people to die or protect them against a constitution that has been compromised. Posterity beckons"

Mr Yomi Daniels also commented that "Understanding is required in matters like this. Nigeria is a multicultural country

and as long as Nigeria remains, we must learn to cohabitate with one another."

He also said, "we also need to understand there are good herdsmen, as we do have mercenaries/bandits who disguise as herdsmen…”

All these and many more are the comments passed on to the country and office of the presidency in this difficult time of the nation.

I'll like to round up with Alao Abiodun's comment which says, "we need total overhaul of the security architecture of the country. We are sitting on a ticking time bomb."

The security architecture must be overhauled totally and various governments particularly, the Federal government as a mather of urgency should act fast and put necessary machinery in place to ensure every citizen sleeps with his two eyes closed.
