The Youth, Government And The EndSARS Protest

Orimabuyaku Nifemi Faith

The youth in every organization, sector or administration is the strength of such an organization and when the strength is not properly mentored or monitored so to say it can boomerang, but when such a strength is made very good use of, I tell you it yield exceptional result.

The government on the other is a core part of the society that cannot be overlooked because it’s the one in charge of every spheres in the society. When you have a new born baby, such a child must possess a birth certificate which is issued out by the government, when someone dies too, even after your death, you must also possess a death certificate even for the dead. That’s how important the government, nothing goes in or out without the knowledge of the government.

That been said, recently in the state and nation at large there has been something we could call a shaking in the helm of affairs basically in the security sector which is referred to as Special Anti Robbery Squad(SARS), their treatment towards the society and conflict with the persons who they are meant to protect. This led to a protest in the country and this protest opened up a lot of issues as regards our leaders.

Quickly, my advice towards the youths in a time like this is that they should be focused, the fight is not for your own selfish reasons rather that a new nation is birthed.

Having access to palliatives that was meant for the nation at large during the course of the End SARS is not a bad thing, but to go ahead looting the business of gentle souls who were minding their business is wrong, very wrong. It could be referred to as the adage of the Yoruba’s that says “ *the one who throws stone to the market* *might end up hitting his/her own family member”.*

We all as a nation are one and we must have our interest at hand, the fight must continue, but it must continue in our actions, our thoughts, our place of work, our conduct, the way we treat one another. That’s the fight.

To the government, just like a senior lecturer of mine once said, that all this that’s happening in the nation at this time, is all a drama and we are the audience, so we only see what we’re permitted to see.

A lot has happened recently in the government that we as a nation is surprised that even those who have amassed so much knowledge can stoop so low and it has brought to our knowledge that life and handling things pertaining to it is more than education in the classroom. I’d advice and beseech the government to come out plain to the  citizens. Yes, we need an explanation, because if it’s a charm it has cleared off from the eyes of the citizens, and more than an explanation, we need a lot of resignations if truly they want to uphold their dignity.
