EndSARS: Fayemi Sues For Peace, Extends Curview.

The governor of Ekiti State and the chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi has called on the people of Ekiti State and Nigeria to remain calm and be law abiding. 


Fayemi sued for peace today in a statewide broadcast in the state owned and private media in the state on the need to peaceful in the aftermath of the peaceful protest staged by some concerned youth in the state and other parts of the country over police brutality which was exceplified by the defunct state Anti-Robery Squard (SARS). 


Fayemi used the occasion to thank the leadership of the protest movement in Ekiti State for calling off the protest. "I want to thank the leadership of protest movement in Ekiti for calling off the protest. The import of the protest has been largely achieved. The Federal government has banned the SARS department in response to the five demands made by the EndSARS movement and those held in SARS detention centres have been released".


The Governor however used the occasion to inform the state that he had set up a Judicial Pannel of Enquiry to look into the cases of abuses, extra judicial actd and general misconduct which led to the protest. He urged the youth to show restraint in the way they pursue their demands. He stated 'I fully understand and endorse the far reaching that the EndSARS protest articulated. It is generally a protest not just against brutality by police officers ,but a wake up to all of us in position of responsibility and the entire citizenry to have a new direction in the manner we handle the governance of the nation."


While acknowledging the relative peace achieved due to the curfew imposed on the state , " We have decided to watch the development over the weekend before deciding on next steps.It is for this reason that I have extended the 24hours curfew on the state until 0600hrs on Monday, 26th of October,2020." He however exempted Friday Jumat and Saturday and Sunday worships for the various faithfuls to worship.


The Governor while charging the security agencies to exercise judicious restraint in response to the tense situation, he stated "The intention of government is to ensure peace under no condition should indiscreational responses be allowed to escalate the situation ". He appealed for the cooperation of the security personnel to live up to the expectations in the course of discharging their duties and warned seriously on those who might to test the resolve of government by engaging in violent action that could to break down of law and order to think twice.
