BRIDGING AFRICA’S INFRASTRUCTURE GAP THROUGH STRONG SINO-AFRICA COOPERATION By Tunji Adeniyi

www.gpereview.com September 24, 2018. Background: Historically, the West constituted Africa’s friend in politics and socio-economy. This is understandable due to the evil called colonisation; and subsequent political independence and sovereignty granted by the West to most African States. Though the West granted political independence, they still control, largely, our economic independence. At least, they want to control our speed of development through well-crafted polices, economic theories, institutions and political designs, also aimed at protecting their economic interests. Consequently, any friendship that seeks to change the status quo, like the Sino-Africa cooperation, is not viewed constructively by the West. Friendship is a two-way relationship, whereby, the distance between two friends are equal, viewed from either end. Africa has been with the West for a long time, but resources flow to Africa has been disproportionate, unfortunately. The cumulative effect of this is e...

Revisit Our Welfare, Ekiti Obas Cry Out To Fayemi

Image
Cross Section of Ekiti Obas at the meeting Traditional rulers in Ekiti State have appealed to the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to revisit their welfare packages that have been bastardized in the last four years. At a meeting with the Governor in his office on Tuesday, 30th October 2018, the traditional rulers narrated their ordeals during the last administration where their salaries were not paid regularly and their allowances slashed to 40 per cent leading to situations where some obas get sitting allowances as low as two thousand or  four hundred naira. The Obas, led by their chairman, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju, the Oloye of Oye- Ekiti said it was unfortunate that custodians of the culture and tradition of the people could be treated in such a shabby and despicable manner where peanuts approved for them could not be paid while some people were living grandiose life style. They called on the governor to be compassionate on them and return their rights and privilege...

Joe Igbokwe “Your child cannot surrender her waist for edifying beads and you will use the bead to decorate another child. A vote for Buhari in 2019 means a return of power to the South-West in 2023. I am sure you will vote wisely” —Fashola Fashola is the former governor of Lagos State, a state in Nigeria for 8 years. Lagos economy is bigger than that of Cameroun, Ghana, Senegal, Liberia and others. Today Fashola is the super Minister of Works, Power and Housing in Nigeria and I know what it means. I served under Asiwaju BAT, served Fashola for 8 years and I am serving under Gov Akinwunmi Ambode. I have seen it all about the majesty of South West politics. I have been in Lagos since the early 80s and I have learnt a lot. Fashola does not speak anyhow but when he decides to speak he throws punches. Every Igbo who is interested in Nigerian politics must read every word in Fashola’s unputdownable above. It carries weight and it speaks volumes. President Buhari known for his h...

Atiku, S/East rift deepens over single term request

Image
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, does not seem to be interested in committing himself to a single term in office if he wins next year’s election, The Nation can now report. Prominent Igbo leaders are said to have been putting pressure on Atiku to agree to do only one term in office  as a condition for the geo-political zone to support him. The idea is to pave the way for  a Southeasterner to succeed him in 2023. But Atiku, who believes his choice of Mr. Peter Obi from the zone, is enough as an expression of his respect for the people, is not keen on doing one term. Southeast stakeholders, including prominent political leaders, are worried that the zone may have to wait till 2026 to have a shot at the Presidency should Atiku stick to his gun, and goes on to win the 2019 election. The Nation learnt that the issue was the main subject of discussion as a meeting in Enugu last week when a committee earlier ...

Image
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo  Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday named the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as one of those who stood against the restructuring of the country when the party was in power. But Osinbajo, speaking in Ibadan yesterday, said Atiku who was Vice President between 1999 and 2007, opposed every move made by the Lagos State government at that time to assert its authority. Delivering a lecture entitled  “Developing the nation through youth empowerment”, at the University of Ibadan, the Vice President said: “I am not just an advocate of restructuring as there is no other government in Nigeria that has actively pursued restructuring such as we did when I was Attorney General in Lagos State. “People talking ...
