Ekiti OMPAN Tasks Fayemi on Poverty Alleviation
The Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (OMPAN) Ekiti State Chapter has enjoined the governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi to fight Poverty.
The Association in a Press Release issued in Ado Ekiti on Friday and jointly signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Ayodele Abere and the State Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Adeniran in Ado Ekiti urged the new Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi (JKF, to focus on fighting poverty in the State as he pilots the affairs of the State for the next four years as the executive governor of the state.
OMPAN noted with great concern the level of poverty being experienced by the people of the State. The body advised the governor to declare war against poverty in the State before it becomes uncontrollable as he has promised to restore Ekiti values.
The statement further reads: "Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the new Governor of Ekiti State must ensure that the locally made contents are well patronised. Doing so would make money to be in circulation, which is very key to fight poverty in our dear State as such will enable every sector of the State's economy to be meaningfully engaged and not rendered redundant or ineffective. Importation of contents from other States should be totally discouraged by the present administration for Ekiti people to be happy and be at peace with the new government which at the long run, will help the administration of Kayode Fayemi to maintain his political touch and relevance with the people of the State from time to time".
Ekiti OMPAN also advised that "street lights should be provided in Ado metropolis and the towns across the stste to expose criminals that might want to perpetrate evil at night when it is dark.
"More attention must also be given to the youths of the state by empowering them and that the poor transport network system being experienced in the State Capital should also be immediately addressed as it has been observed with dismay over the years that taxi drivers have not been plying some roads like bank road, leading to the state secretariat and some other important areas in the city of Ado-Ekiti".
The statement equally enjoined Fayemi to take human development and empowerment programmes as a priority than infrastructural development that seems less important to the people of the State judging from the past experiences of the people.
The statement however, congratulated the new Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi for the success of a -week long inauguration ceremony. The Association also commended the Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi for standing solidly behind her husband during the turbulent period. OMPAN advised Ekiti Women to learn from the exemplary attributes exhibited and displayed by Erelu Bisi Fayemi right from first term of the governor till now that her husband was re-elected to govern the State for the second time.
The association however, said, "to grow Ekiti economy into a level where all citizens will enjoy and live a better life, the youths (young intellectuals), the media ),that is print, electronics and online which is new media, private and public sector, owners of local contents, farmers, entrepreneurs and creative minds must be assembled in a special state summit to get more ideas on how to fast track the development and progress of the State.
"When the people are okay, the State will be okay too. Dr. Kayode Fayemi must take care of the finances, economy and the needs of the people of the State first before any other thing. Governor Fayemi must ensure he serves the interests of the people of the State first and not just that of the few that would form his cabinet or menbers of his political party".
