2019: PDP Leaders in Ikere Defect To APC, Say It's Their Turn
Several members of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties in Ikere Ekiti have recently defected to the All Progressives' Congress (APC) en masse, in support of their own son, Muyiwa Olumilua.
This, according to the new defectors, was in the bid to work for Olumilua's aspiration to clinch a seat in the House of Representatives in Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, comprising of Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti South West, and Ise-Orun Local Government Areas.
While speaking with some Ikere indigenes, everyone of them stated that it was the turn of Ikere-Ekiti to produce a member of the House of Representatives who would represent the constituency, after being out of contention for the past 16 years and claimed it was Ikere's turn.
It would be recalled that Ekiti South West has been in the saddle for the past 8 years, having Hon. Ife Arowosoge, and presently Hon. Segun Adekola to represent the constituency. Prior to that, Hon. Akindahunsi, from Ise-Orun Local Government Area occupied the seat for 8 years. Ikere Ekiti was on the seat in 1999-2003, which was occupied by Hon. Francis Aladejebi.
It was thus believed by the Ikere Indigenes that after 16 years, it was Ikere's turn to occupy the highly coveted position of representing that Federal Constituency.
Muyiwa Olumilua who is one of the front runners for the seat, also contested the APC Governorship primary election which was won by Dr. Kayode Fayemi. He was the SSA Project Monitoring during the Fayemi administration, and also served as SSA Integration and Intergovernmental Relations during the same regime.
