Anxiety As Oyebanji Demands Thorough Grilling of His Commissionership Nominees

In his quest for integrity and quality leadership, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has told the House of Assembly to properly screen all his nominees for commissionership and not give a "bow and go" screening to any of them.

Members of Ekiti State House of Assembly were led to Governor Oyebanji during last week by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, for a courtesy visit but the governor stuned them when he said his nominees for commissionership should be given proper screening because he wanted the best.

Oyebanji who was sworn in October 15 last year set up an appointment committee about two months ago to help him scout for qualified and competent hands in the 16 Local Government Areas of the State. The Committee headed by late Mr George Akosile concluded and handed over to him three weeks ago.

Just like he said while swearing in the first batch of his cabinet members, Oyebanji said integrity would be his watch word. He told them that his administration would respect the doctrine of separation of power as entrenched in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Oyebanji who is known to have a zero tolerance for low performance, assured the lawmakers of his maximum cooperation in giving dividends of democracy to the good people of Ekiti State.

Shortly after his inauguration, the governor had announced that his commissioners must be those who reside among their people and not unknown politicians who would not add any value to his government.

The governor's statement on thorough screening had sent a signal to those who thought they had scaled through the huddle of the appointment committee to know that "it's not yet over until it's over."

Meanwhile, there is a high expectation that appointment into various political offices would make the public feel more impacts of the government.
