Corps Members Protest Against Posting to Schools

A cross section of Corps members serving in Ekiti State have complained against being posted to schools in Ekiti State as they claim it does not add value to their career.

Speaking with Fountain Newsbreaker at the State Secretariat of the National Youth Service Commission (NYSC) in Ado Ekiti during the passing out parade of Batch B members, they complained against mass posting to schools contrary to their Educational background.

"NYSC should work on the Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) scheme so that the course of study of a corps member will align to where he/she is posted to.  Any engineering graduate should be posted to an engineering department not school," they said

NYSC Ado-Ekiti held its Passing Out Parade of Batch B Stream 2 Corps Members at Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State Today, 25th May, 2023.

A source from the NYSC Secretariat stated that the celebration was done on a low key because they just left camp, stress and many other personal reasons.

Few of the corps members spoke during an interview with Fountain Newsbreaker

Samuel from Abia state who happens to be the President of Royal Embassy Fellowship said, "the country has done well by initiating this program to remove Nepotism, Tribalism. As a person who is a fashion designer before coming for NYSC, I utilized the SAED scheme by joining Fashion Designing group and also worked with a person. My vision is to have my Fashion Industry which will reduce unemployment in this country. NYSC should do thorough survey on any organizations that register with them to make accomodations and stipend available for corps members. Also, the course of study of a corps member should align with his place of primary assignment PPA. Not everybody should be posted to school. Ekiti is a peaceful place, they are security conscious"

Igonoh Sunday  from Kogi State who belonged to National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Community Development Service group further said that NYSC had helped him  to have teamwork spirit and also to be disciplined when it comes to going to work early. He said he can now work with any organization because of this discipline he has received.

Efforts by Fountain Newsbreaker crew to speak with the authority proved abortive as they were all avoiding to speak to the press.
