Give Us Journalist As Information Commissioner - Ekiti NUJ Tells Oyebanji, Congratulates Agbaje, New Radio Nigeria GM

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council has called on the Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji to break the jinx of appointing a non-media professional as the Commissioner for Information in the State by appointing a core journalist as the Chief information officer of his government.

This was contained in the communique issued at the end of the Congress of the union held on March 28, 2023 signed by the secretary of the Union, Mr Kayode Babatuyi.

The Communique which also congratulated the new General Manager of Progress FM in Ekiti State, Dr Bola Agbaje, thanked the Governor for renovating the Correspondent Chapel of the union.

According to the Congress, having a core journalist as Information Commissioner would foster a more cordial relationship between the union and the government.

It would be recalled that none of all those who were appointed as Information Commissioners in the State was journalist before being appointed though some of the union leaders served past government in various media capacities and served meritoriously.

Fountain Newsbreaker's check reveals that among the union members who served the government in different capacities in the past were; erstwhile NUJ Chairman in the State, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, Ifedayo Sayo, Odunayo Ogunmola, Tunde Akinlabi among others. Some of them are still in government and it is on record that they are not found wanting.

Below is the comprehensive communique of the union:

"The Congress commends the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji for the renovation of the office of the NUJ Correspondent's Chapel and for his overwhelming support for NUJ.

"That government should mandate filling stations and business institutions to allow customer to transact with POS while those who fail to comply should be sanctioned.
