Training, Certification, Solution to Quackery - NUJ Boss

The Ekiti State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela has advised all untrained media practitioners to embrace the golden opportunity  of getting proper training and certification offered at the International Institute of  Journalism Abuja, Ado Ekiti  campus.


He made the appeal during the matriculation ceremony  organized for the newly admitted students of the institution at the same campus along NTA road, Ado Ekiti today.


He said: "the benefits of this training is enormous, because as Journalists, you are a professional and if you are a professional, you try to stay away from quackery. So  if you have the passion to be a Journalist, come to IIJ Abuja, Ado Ekiti campus, where you will be groomed and trained to be a real Journalist.”



Also speaking during the ceremony amongst other dignitaries, Special Adviser to the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly and also  Chairman Academic Board of the institute, Akogun Tai Oguntayo stressed on the need for uncertified practicing Journalists to register with the IIJ so as to get the needed professional training as failure to do so would mean they have been practising all the years in futility.


The NUJ boss also warned that the training was not free of charge, therefore both matriculating and intending students should endeavor to pay the stipulated fees to enable them get the needed education that will be of immense benefit to their career and make them stand out.






Furthermore, some of the matriculants who spoke with newsmen, expressed joy and gratitude for being privileged to be tutored by highly experienced and dedicated lecturers, and employed other would-be Journalists to join suit.


Delivering a speech during the matriculation, the registrar of the Institute, Mr. Afolabi Olusola, represented by Chief Olakunle Tokunbo from the Federal University of Technology Akure, congratulated and  encouraged the students to judiciously utilize the unique opportunity to study at the famous and prestigious International Institute of Journalism by attending all lectures and do the continuous assessments. 


He also appreciated the leadership of NUJ for providing the school with three blocks of classrooms. 


Consequently, the Coordinator of the Institute Mr. Dare Daniels also enjoined all students to be at their best as the lecturers and management Board are committed to bringing out the best in them.
