Ekiti Speaker Rejoices With Children on their Day



The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, has rejoiced with Children on today's International Children's day.


The Speaker, in a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, rejoiced with the children, describing them as future leaders of the nation.


The United Nation in 1966 dedicated every 27th of May every year as International Children's Day. In commemorating the day, the Speaker urged parents to give their children the best.


"Most importantly, I urge parents to give their wards quality education as the only legacy which they can bestow on them," the Speaker said.


Speaking on the efforts of the State House of Assembly in bringing good life to children in the State, Afuye said "we are committed to legislating laws that protect the rights of children because we are also fathers and mothers."


He also disclosed that the 6th Assembly, in collaboration with the with of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, had passed many laws that guide against child abuse and trafficking.


Afuye then assured that the Assembly will always cooperate with the State government in bringing about good standard of living to Ekiti children.
