The girl child's day  is usually celebrated November 25th of every year. It is often accompanied with an orange wear . This year event in Ekiti State was massively supported by the  State government and was referred to as "16 Days Global AC Against Gender Based Violence".

One of the foremost proponents of girl child right is the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi who has always been in support of the girl child and always doing everything to make sure the girl child is safe and secured in this unsecured environment of ours.

Erelu Bisi Fayemi took to the podium to affirm that women and girl child needed special care and attention as against daily assault that commonly adorn the pages of our national dailies. 

She urged stakeholders to support government drive in the protection and promotion of rights of women and girls to guarantee a better society.

Also ,in order to further demonstrate the seriousness the state government have in the girl child right project, the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi inaugurated Moremi clinic to serve as an Assault Referral Centre as part of activities marking a 16-day Global Activism Against Gender Based Violence.

Dr Fayemi explained that the initiative of the referral centre was to show the general public and society at large that the state government was committed to ensure global best practices in the protection and promotion of the girl child's right. 

He further remarked that the centre would provide free medical and legal support for victims to assure justice was done and delivered. 

In the same vein, The New Generation Girl And Women Development Initiative(NIGAWD) headed by Miss Bimbo Aladejare also had a programme tagged "When boys connect" to also commemorate the 16 days of activism, end violence against women.


It was a program that was more like a  dialogue between boys of notable institutions in the state and other prudent and industrious citizens making wave in the state currently, persons like Temitope Awelewa, Sola Matthew Akinluyi, (Barr)Mrs Aladejare , special assistant, office of the First Lady,  (Barr)Mrs Titilayo Oluwadare,Senior magistrate, Emure Division and several other notable gender personality.


It was an enlightening program to the male gender because most of the violence inflicted on the girl child is perpetrated by the male gender.


 Barrister Mrs Aladejare acquainted everyone  with the consequences of being involved with Gender Based Violence according to the Ekiti State Gender Based Violence(Prohibition), Law 2019.


One core effect that this crusade is set to have in the state and nation at large is that the girl child, to a large extent is more secured knowing fully well, that justice resides somewhere around the corner for her and the male gender comes to the realization that the girl child is not a toy to play with rather a value that should be cherished.


Girl child right is often abused due to the incessant attitude of the violators mainly from the opposing sex. The various crusade from various quarters is believed to yield positive results and eventually check the menace in the society.

ANA Faction Loses Court Case, Risks Being Docked For Contempt of Court

The National Executive of a faction of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) led by Mr. Camilus Ukah has lost its bid to challenge the jurisdiction of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, in a pending originating summons against them and the faction it constituted for Abuja, under the Chairmanship of Mrs. Usman Halima.
