COVID 19: Fayemi Extends Lockdown, Condemns Abduction of his Commissioner

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has extended the lockdown in the State by a week just as he condemned the abduction of his Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Olabode Folorunso in the week.

Fayemi made this yesterday in a broadcast to the people of the state monitored in the broadcasting media within the state while reviewing the situation so far since the beginning of the knockdown in the state.

Fayemi condemned the abduction of the commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Folorunsho Olabode and others which resulted to the death of the leader of the Ilejemeje Local Council Legislative Arm and assured that the ugly incident was getting necessary action and charged the security officials to ensure their safety. It would be recalled that the commissioner and the two occupants of the vehicle were abducted over the weekend along Isan /Iye Ekiti while traveling to Iye, his home town.

"I want to acknowledge the difficult sacrifices we have all made by observing the lockdown in the last four (4) weeks, though some residents refused to comply and many  were apprehended and prosecuted to act as deterrence to others. That collective sacrifice has resulted in the slow rate of infection but it has been devastating for the state and individual family economies ". He said

Fayemi informed that there would be knockdown of all interstate boundaries except for essential services movements and products. He however reiterated on the enforcement ban on large gathering included religious,social,education and political events and emphasised on wearing of face mask within the state and violators would be sanctioned.

The Governor while extending the knockdown, he relaxed the curfew which would be from 6pm to 6am from Monday, April 27th to Sunday, May 3rd ,2020 but exempted the essential workers.

Fayemi further informed that business activities would resume for only 3days in a week (Mondays, Wednesdays,and Fridays) from 7am to 4pm only "To allow the self employed earn some income to feed their families and not wait solely on Government for palliatives while Tuesdays,Thursdays,Saturdays and Sundays are exempted from the restrictions ".Fayemi stressed.

The Governor confirmed cases in Ekiti state so far was a total of 4 to 8 with 5 active cases as at yesterday when he was addressing the people of Ekiti state.

He made it clear that all major markets in the state as usual remain closed while commercial activities within the state would be allowed on the free days but motorists and cyclists must comply with the lockdown rules while Inter State travels banned. He assured that the violators would be punished.

However, level 13 and above officicers tendering essential services and the likes in the public service were to report at their desks on authorised days.
