EKSG To Resuscitate Justice Ministry, China Partnership

The Ekiti State Government is set to resuscitate the Partnership between the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice and  China Law Society (CLS)


The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Olawale Fapohunda Esq. made this known during a meeting with the Ministry of Justice Academy Governing Board. He mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with the China Law Society during the first tenure of Dr. Kayode Fayemi but it was abandoned after he left office in 2014.

The Partnership with the CLS gave Lawyers in the Ministry of Justice the opportunity to participate in the annual China -Africa Legal Professionals Exchange programme in China. He said during the first tenure of the Fayemi Administration, three Lawyers from the Ministry participated in the programme.

Fapohunda also spoke on the  MOU  between the Ministry of Justice and Ekiti State University (EKSU) and Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) which was also signed during the first tenure of the Fayemi Administration and abandoned by the past administration. The Attorney-General assured that the relationships with both Institutions of learning would be renewed.

He said the MOU between the Ministry and these Institutions was to enable State Counsel  share their experiences with students by teaching in these Universities while students were to be offered internships in  the Ministry. He further stated that  the MOU also included the  Attorney-General’s Quarterly Colloquium on Law and Justice- a forum aimed at providing Lawyers and Law students a practical  appreciation of current  Law and Justice issues, including the workings of national and international law and justice institutions.

Speaking on the Justice Academy, the Attorney- General said that for sustainability and continuity, an Advisory Council made up of past Attorneys-General had been set-up to ensure that the scheme is institutionalized. He added that the website of the Ministry would be made more user-friendly for accessibility of Articles and Papers emanating from the academy.

While Reacting, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Academy, Prof. Oluwatoyin Babatunde,  stressed the need for awareness, lectures and symposiums for police prosecutors and those involved in justice administration in the state.

Prof. Babatunde also gave his assurance on the maximum cooperation and support of the Board towards achieving the vision behind the establishment of the academy.

The Ministry of Justice Academy, the first of its kind in Nigeria, was established to provide a framework for continuous learning and professional development of State Counsel and Administrative Staff of the Ministry of Justice.

ANA Faction Loses Court Case, Risks Being Docked For Contempt of Court

The National Executive of a faction of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) led by Mr. Camilus Ukah has lost its bid to challenge the jurisdiction of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, in a pending originating summons against them and the faction it constituted for Abuja, under the Chairmanship of Mrs. Usman Halima.
