Ekiti NUJ Condemns BSES Unprofessionalism...Pleads with NBC to Re-Open Station

By Femi Oguntayo

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ekiti state council has pleaded with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to temper justice with mercy over the closure of the Broadcasting service of Ekiti (BSES).

In a statement signed by the chairman Com. Rotimi Ojomoyela and the secretary of the Union Com. Kayode Babatuyi, it was stated that the NUJ is not in any way happy about the unprofessional attitude of the station.

They however made the plea in respect of their colleagues whose means of livelihood is being threatened.

"Its a known fact that the fragrant disobedient to broadcast law by the station is a consequence of "ownership factor" in the media industry which had made journalists helpless by operating to the tune and dictate of the owner of the organisation where they work.

"Until this factor is addressed journalists will still continue to experience difficulties in ensuring total compliance to broadcasting codes.

"We hereby appeal to NBC to re open the station for operation in no distance time as we promised to also expose the workers to more trainings that would guard against such in future", the statement read.
