Rainstorm Wrecks Havoc in Okemesi Ekiti, Destroys Schools, Houses

People of Okemesi-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Areas of Ekiti Syate have appealed to government at all levels to come to their aids over the rainstorm that wrecked serious havoc early this morning in the community.
The rain which started around 5:30am on Tuesday destroyed properties worth several millions of naira as over fifty house roofs were blown off during the incident.
Okemesi Community High School was badly damaged as the roof of the laboratory building was completely blown off. Other areas affected include: Ode-Ese street, Okerena environs and Fabunmi Memorial High School all in Okemesi-Ekiti.
Speaking with newsmen, the Osolo of Okemesi-Ekiti, Chief Adebowale Adepoju said he had lost over three tons of cement to the incident. He called on government and other philanthropists to come to his rescue and others by rendering financial assistance to them so as to get back to their businesses.

The Principal of OCHS, Pastor Ogunmakin also disclosed that "there is urgent need to repair the damaged roof of the laboratory building otherwise the scientific equipments there may get damaged as there is no other suitable building that can contain them". When asked to estimate the financial implication of the damage, he said "I cannot immediately give a figure now until a team of professionals come to inspect the level of the damage." The school principal however said appropriate authorities such as: Teaching Service Commission, old students association and Parents Teachers Association had been contacted.
Others who appealed for help included a widow Madam Eunice Morakinyo-Adeleye and Mrs Abimbola Ogunleye who is a petty trader. They all lamented that they were left with nothing as all their belongings had been consumed by the unexpected storm. No life was lost to the incident.
