Orin Odo Obaship Tussle: How Fayose Frustrates People's Wish

The people of Orin Odo in Ikole Local Government have locked the palace against the new Olorin elect, Oba.
 Femi Ogunjobi for allegedly being imposed on them by Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The community accused the governor of installing the Oba Elect on them right at the governor's office without any traditional right up till date. Since the controversial installation of the Oba elect two years ago, he had not been allowed to gain entrance to the palace.

The stool of Olorin became vacant on February 7th, 2014 following the death of the former Olorin of Orin Odo, Oba Williams Abiodun Ajisafe.  Morgan report and other relevant Chieftaincy declaration/documents confirmed that: "all members of the Ruling House of the male line only are to contest."

During the commencement of the selection process, seven eligible Princes reportedly submitted application to contest for the stool but the head of the family, Chief Akintayo Ogunjobi was alleged to have tinkered with the list by screening out four other contestants to favour just three namely: Femi Ogunjobi (his biological son), Adebisi Ogunjobi (his younger brother) and one Akintunde Ajayi

Several attempts had been made by prominent leaders from the state and the paramount ruler of Egbeoba kingdom, the Elekole of Ikole, Oba Ajibade Fasiku who called a meeting of the Ejioye ruling house and other stakeholders in the town on Wednesday 13 November, 2017 to resolve the Obaship tussle in the town.

At the meeting, the people insisted that nothing would ever make them accept the way a candidate was allegedly imposed on them in government house by the governor.

They accused Governor Fayose of manipulating the selection process by blindfolding certain two candidates and enforced the Kingmakers to queue behind his preferred candidate which made the kingmakers to refuse performing the necessary traditional rites for the Oba elect up till date.

Oba Fasiku pleaded With the people to allow the traditional rites to  be performed on the Oba elect so that the community could move forward  but the people stood their ground, threatening that "who so ever performs such will not live to witness its aftermath".  They disclosed that such sacrilege had occurred in the community in the past leading to the death of many people

The Fountain Newsbreaker called the Oba elect on phone but he declined comments promising that: "when I'm ready to talk, I will call you." Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, Mr Kolade... told pur reporter that: "as far as we are concerned, the government has done the needful by following the due process of the law in the selection process of the Oba of Orin Odo."
