James Olorundare |
In an interview with James Olorundare who is a political commentator/ researcher on Nigerian political history, he said that "The Central bank of Nigeria is meant to operate by the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria and a law guiding the CBN, which is the CBN Act 2007. The President as the number 1 citizen of the land has right according to the CBN Act to suspend the CBN governor which is what he has done. As for Godwin Emefiele, his allegation according to reports, bothers on funding of terrorists, Mismanagement of Nigeria’s Social Investment program (NIRSAL), anchor Borrowers scheme, economic crime, Money Laundering, unwholesome activities through proxy, round tripping, conferment of financial benefits to self and others, threat to national security, criminal conspiracy among others.
These are serious offences that cannot be overlooked but most people believe that the germane reason for his suspension bothers on his role during the Naira policy which was targeted at Tinubu's chances in the last presidential election. However to finally sack the CBN Governor, the President must get a two-third vote from the Senate before he can finally be able to sack him.Furthermore, the manner in which Nigeria's Monetary Policy has been handled under the CBN Governor has not been a good site to behold exchange rate have not been favourable to Naira and several other mismanagement of our Macroeconomics. Furthermore, the CBN Governor was not meant to be political..
He was supposed to be apolitical but the way and manner he contested or by proxy got people to buy the Presidential nomination form under APC portrayed him to be Political which morally disqualifies him from making sound economic policy But after spending over 8-years in CBN and no spectacular difference on the economy, he should be changed

To Ngozi Milliscent, "I believe thorough investigation should be done because most people are carried away with emotion. Emefiele wouldn't have done what he did during the era of cash crunch if not that he was ordered by the former president. The former CBN governor had been found guilty before his suspension then. According to some source, the reason for cash crunch was to have free and fair election, so he followed direction. Investigation should come before Suspension, if found guilty his appointment can be terminated.

Olowoyo Saheed |
Mr Olowoyo Saheed Ayomide, a graduate of Mass communication at the Federal University of Oye Ekiti and a political analyst/Online media writer said; "I will describe Godwin Emefiele's suspension and arrest as the readiness of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fight corruption in his administration as he has said during his campaignthat in his government will embrace accountability and transparency. Though I have gone through some people's comments on social media tagging the act as "retaliation". Though the cashless policy being made by the CBN Governor cost alot of pain to all Nigerians, likewise the political activities, at the same time hindered the plans of some political candidates who planned to rig. Moreover, policy made by Emefiele helped Buhari's administration to achieve the free and fair election, which led to the Emergency of President Bola Tinubu, so in my opinion,Tinubu is not retaliating but trying to negate any corrupt act in his government.
All I can say is that Tinubu suspended him in order to give way to the EFCC on the ongoing investigation over the allegations raised against CBN Governor under Buhari's administration in order not to attached it to his administration.
Oyindamola Oyedele, a mass communication final year student of FUOYE: The former CBN governor's arrest was a deserved one.
It is of no news that everyone in government is directly or indirectly involved in politics. However, the ex CBN governor should have known his place in the
aspect of objectivity because every action he takes is capable of affecting the Public.
In my own opinion, siding a party before the presidential election by hoarding the new naira notes was a great mistake he ever made as it was made obvious that he was in support of the opposing party against the new elected president. In as much I am not a "batified fan" , I feel there are better ways the ex-governor would have handed the issue by not inflicting pains on the general public to tarnish the image of the Winning party.
