NLN Commences Operations in Ekiti State
The National Library of Nigeria has on Wednesday 2nd December, 2020 commenced operations to provide library services in Ekiti State as part of fulfilling the mandate of the Organization to establish a Branch in each of the State Capital of the Federation.
Handing over the temporary building on behalf of Ekiti state government, the Director State Library Board Mrs Adeyeye Yemisi expressed gladness for having services of the National Library of Nigeria in Ekiti state. She stated that very soon a plot of Land would also be donated to the National Library for the construction of a permanent and prototype structure, she noted that it was long over due for Ekiti state to have services of the National Library of Nigeria, she added that many a times Students and Researchers do visit the state library demanding for international standard book number (ISBN) and international standard serial numbers (ISSN), she said to obtain these numbers from the National Library has been very difficult for them, she expressed happiness for the presence of the apex library of the nation that the state library board will joint hands together to improve the services in Ekiti state..
Responding, the National Librarian, Professor Lenrie Olatokumbo Aina commended the director state library board Mrs Yemisi in her efforts to achieve the Ekiti state branch of the National Library of Nigeria, he noted that together with Mr Omotola a retired Staff of the National Library and head Ondo State branch, Mrs Ogunyemi and the Director Public services Department Mrs Ruth Bature, they all contributed to the achievement of Ekiti state branch.
The National Librarian also commended the Managing Director of Havilla Merchants Nigeria Limited Mr. Lanre Adesuyi who is an indigene of Ekiti state for donating volumes of books worth five (5m) Millions Naira to equip the branch.
He stated that he had already deployed Staff Members to man the branch and it would be headed by an Assistant Chief Librarian Mr Ajayi J. O with four other Staff.
Professor Lenrie Olatokumbo Aina also expressed appreciation to the Ekiti state government for responding to the request and pledged to upgrade library services across Nigeria.
