The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Mr Olawale Fapohunda, is currently leading a Delegation of Directors and Legal Officers in Ekiti State Ministry of Justice on a facility tour to Lagos Mirabel, DNA and Forensics Centre in Lagos.

The first point of call was the Mirabel Centre, managed by Partnership for Justice, a Non Governmental Organization in partnership with Lagos State Government.

Mirabel Centre was founded by Itoro Ezenaba and is located in the premises of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). It's a centre that fights for Survivals of Sexual Abuses. It renders services like, consultation, counselling, Medical Care, treatments, laboratory investigation (on STDs/STIs) etc.

According to the centre Manager, Juliet Olumuyiwa Rufai, all these aforementioned services  and results would be documented and forwarded to appropriate quarters, like the security agencies, the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the Ministry of Justice etc. All these services are free.

The NGO attends to both females and male victims, though more of females and attends to both old and young, the youngest being a three month old baby, while the oldest was an eighty year old plus woman.

Also, out of over 4000 cases the centre had managed about 100 out of which were cases of male victims of Sexual abuses. These male victims were said to be abused by their fellow males.

The centre initially got funded by the British Government but now it gets funds from donors. The LASG has been supporting them also in the area of subsidizing the cost for Test and it makes use of a facility in the premises of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

The visit of the delegation from Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, led by the honourable Attorney General, Wale Fapohunda was aimed at establishing a similar centre in Ekiti State where victims and survivals of Sexual abuses can get justice.

Meanwhile, later yesterday, the Attorney General and the Team met with their Lagos' counterparts and leadership of the Ministry of Justice, Lagos State led by the Permanent Secretary and Solicitor General of the Lagos Ministry Of Justice Mrs Funlola Odunlami.

The meeting though was a familiarization meeting, had various issues ranging from challenges faced by both ministries in their various States discussed.

Today, being the second phase of the tour, the team will be visiting the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre located 48, Broad Street, Lagos Island, Lagos.
